Pebble Number Twenty-Four: Haikus spread across my brain like unrelated chunks of melting butter

Haikus spread across my brain like unrelated chunks of melting butter

Gossamer strings sway
in the alcove’s faint shadow.
Evidence of wind.

The ghostly quiet
haunts me with its solitude.
Silence gives release.

Iridescent waves
flicker on the pool’s bottom.
Sunlight refracted.

When in doubt eat waffles.
Splash in amber syrup pools
if there’s double doubt.

  1. Loving your haikus.

I ate waffles all last week. Hadn’t bought a box of them in like years. B decided we needed to get some during a spontaneous moment in the frozen food section of the grocery store. Sidebar: I think they would make good frisbees. I invited the bottle of maple syrup to dance with me. She swirled and twirled back and forth across the diameter of the whole-grain stage. Then I interrupted the dance with a haiku:

    Fork…dressed in silver,
Swoops down, then… the final lift,
    My taste buds applaud.
